Hammersmith & Fulham shares services, halves expenditure and generates income

In 2013, the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham’s communications department established new, streamlined ways of working with a clear focus on efficiency and high-quality service delivery. Having led the procurement of a shared print contract for London councils, they formed a new joint design team with the neighbouring borough of Kensington & Chelsea.

The communications department implemented Panacea Software to create an efficient and flexible workflow which is shared by the new design team, the council’s marketing team and in-house print unit.

In addition to these design services provided to RBKC, the communications department generated £255K of income in 2014-15 through sales of printing and other services to local businesses and partnership organisations.

Through careful strategy, the department reduced the council’s expenditure on marketing and related services by 50% in 2014-15 while delivering a consistently high quality of service.

Using Panacea we have improved the quality and auditing of our marketing management information. We have created a single, shared process across two boroughs to streamline disparate systems and create efficiencies.  We complete jobs much faster and deal with customer enquiries more efficiently because we have a central database and a single process for all jobs. In this way our marketing, design and print services operate as an efficient business, and we are able to provide a valuable service to our own council and our clients.
